The English Special Section was officially created in September 2023, aligning with the policy of the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to enhance the use of English in university studies and scientific research. This initiative reflects a national strategy to promote English as a tool for academic and professional excellence. The section was inaugurated in November 2023 by His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education, during a ceremony that also recognized the program’s commitment to high standards by providing students with a C1 level diploma in English proficiency.
Structure and Enrollment
In its first year, the English Special Section admitted 100 students, including one international student from Tanzania. Currently, the section accommodates 75 first-year students and 75 second-year students, including 4 international students from Ghana and Zimbabwe. The section is staffed by 12 permanent teachers of various academic ranks, including Professors, Lecturers A, and Lecturers B, as well as three non-permanent teachers. These educators are distinguished by their expertise and high-level skills, ensuring quality education and guidance for the students.
Mission and Vision
The mission of the English Special Section is to provide students with a comprehensive educational experience that combines theoretical knowledge with practical training. From the first to the third year, students receive hands-on experience through internships in various media outlets, including opportunities at prominent organizations like Al Jazeera. This practical approach equips students with the skills needed to excel in professional environments, particularly in English-speaking media departments.
The vision of the English Special Section is to offer students the opportunity to graduate with a license in one of three specialized fields: Communication, Media, or Digital Media. At the start of their third year, students can choose their preferred area of study, tailoring their education to their career aspirations. The program also anticipates the launch of a Master’s degree dedicated to English Special Section graduates, providing a pathway for advanced studies and research.
